Cast iron is a ferrous (iron-based) metal that is cast with certain characteristics. Made through the process of melting and casting molten iron into a certain mold or shape. Cast iron has a chemical composition containing more than 2% carbon and significant amounts of silicon.
Cast Iron has various advantages including being resistant to corrosion, cheap, and having good forming properties while still in a liquid state so that it can be molded into various desired shapes. However, its weaknesses include being fragile, less elastic, and relatively heavy.
Uses of cast iron include the automotive industry, construction, kitchen equipment production, bridge building, and various other applications that require strength and durability.
